Voluntary Activities for Social & Human Advancement Foundation (VASHA Foundation) distributed food items to the families of 450 transport workers on the 16th , 17th and 18th of May’2020. To curb the outbreak of Covid-19 corona virus, the Bangladesh Government declared a general holiday across the entire country since the 26th March this year. Besides, all types of vehicles and transportation were declared closed across the whole country to avoid public gatherings, crowds and movement from one area to another.
About seven million drivers, staff and helpers work in the transport sector of Bangladesh. But due to the closure of transport for a long time, the drivers, staff, helpers and workers employed in this sector has become unemployed, jobless and as a result incomeless . About seven million transport workers of the country have fallen into misery.
Hon’ble Prime Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina is providing various assistance and incentives to the people whose income has stopped due to the Corona situation. But in this situation, the government as well as everyone must come forward to alleviate the suffering of the low-income people of the country. Because it is not possible for the government alone to solve the problems of all the miserable people in this country with huge population. Considering this reality and thinking about the workers employed in the transport sector, the VASHA Foundation distributed food packets among 450 families of workers employed in the transport sector. Each packet included rice, pulses, chira (dry rice), muri (dry rice), onion, potato, salt, flour and oil.
On the other hand, the VASHA Foundation also distributed germ protection materials among 450 other beneficiaries. This included soap, mask and savlon as hand sanitizer.
The food items and protection materials were distributed among the beneficiaries of VASHA Foundation’s target areas such as Colonel Hat, Fauzdarhat, Sitakunda, Pahartali, Khulshi, Kumira, Bandar, North and South Kattoli and Halishahar.
The matter was informed to the Chattogram district administration by letter before the distribution of food items and protection materials items.
